Salaulim dam had been in my bucket list ever since I saw the trending photos of duckbill spillway on social media(Duckbill spillway ).There is no direct public transport facility to the dam.I planned to take my Dhanno for a day out.If you are a Marathi reader,I would suggest you to go through my first post Dhanno for better understanding.
Salaulim dam is 30kms from Margao/37kms from Ponda/66kms from Panaji towards the southern edge of Goa.It is located in the Sanguem Taluka. Though Goa remains green throughout the year, during monsoons it’s a mesmerizing experience to ride through the beautiful streets surrounded by canopy of trees.Away from the beaches,Salaulim lies in the hinterlands of Goa.
The timing for Salaulim Dam and Botanical garden visit is 9.00am to 6.00pm on all weekdays(including weekends except public holidays). At least one member of the group must carry a government ID proof. The ticket charges are INR 20/head for Adults and INR 10/head for kids(below 3 years).
On one June sunday,we started at around 8.30 am from Ponda. Google map did not ditch us this time and showed the right path.We did not had to ask any local for the route.Since it was a sunday, not much traffic on this route. The ride through Borim-Shiroda-Sanvordem-Curchorem road beautifully surrounded by shades of green with continuous downpour was a treat to both eyes and mind. The road condition is pretty good.I hardly found any potholes.
We reached the Dam site at around 10.00 am.The guard asked us to park the two wheelers in the ample parking space provided. Not many vehicles in the morning. At the entrance,on left hand side you will see the way to the dam and on right will be the botanical garden. The washrooms are very clean. The garden is very well maintained.Nicely manicured plants. Colorful flowers .Wonderful paths.
Cool ,refreshing and nicely manicured garden. You can spend hours at this stunning beautiful place.Picnic spot!
This place with flora in abundance,is a nice hub for photography enthusiast.
We walked towards the duckbill spillway.
We need to climb those stairs buddy! and words would do no justice to the breathtaking view once you reach the top..so have a look!
The best time to visit this place is July to November.Since we visited in June when the rain just started,we did not get to see the beauty as per the above mentioned video. Here is the duckbill spillway when it’s not overflowing!I’ll update here in case I visit when it does:)
The walking stretch is around 1 km with nice breeze.Worth it!
We got down after spending some time .If you want to know about the people in below image, kindly visit Murudeshwar Ft. Daddu and Aju
The board shown above indicated presence of herbal garden on left and rock garden on right. However,by now,we were hungry. We walked towards the canteen. The canteen is very small one where you can get ice creams and tea,not many food options available,so don’t forget to pack some food.
With ice cream cones in hand we searched for rock garden. The dust bins are placed almost everywhere so be a responsible citizen and do not litter. The rock garden was just for name sake as all the rocks were covered with plants:D.We did not find this place any different than the garden.
We spent around three and half hours at this place.Towards the exit,we found these quack quack people.
On the way back,we had our lunch at Shantadurga Veg and Non Veg restaurant. This is a small hotel next to Sanguem bus stand.A typical goan fish thali at Rs.80
We headed back to Ponda at around 1.30pm.
Yayyy!!This is me after my first greater than 30 kms ride on my Dhanno in one go..Haha!!
